Back in June, a team from GlobalizeMe headed to the picturesque town of Heidelberg for the SAP LX (Language Services) Forum 2024. This event brought together around 200 delegates from the SAP partner base, including key attendees from SAP itself. The conference was held at SAP’s beautiful facilities in Waldorf, providing the perfect backdrop for updates on strategic and tactical matters, discussions on the latest technological innovations, and some fantastic networking opportunities.
The Rise of AI in Localization
As a conference primarily focused on content and localization, the hot topic this year was the rise of AI. We heard from multiple partners and colleagues at SAP about their experiences and views on AI, covering everything from Generative AI (GenAI) to Machine Translation. The overarching message was clear: to stay relevant, we need to evolve and keep pace with the maturing AI technology landscape.
Our Presentation: AI and the Future of Translation
One of the highlights for us was delivering a presentation to the entire delegation. We shared our experiences with AI and our vision for the future of technology in translation and localization, both within the SAP ecosystem and beyond. During our 30-minute presentation, we focused on several key areas including:
Principles of AI
We started with an overview of AI principles, providing a foundation for understanding how AI can be applied in various contexts.
Narrow AI
We delved into Narrow AI, discussing rules engines, algorithms, workflow, and machine learning-based AI. We highlighted how these systems allow our clients and staff to rest easy, thanks to self-repairing, auto-scaling, and cascade-notifying systems.
Generative AI
We shared our experiences with Generative AI, including our work on architecting and building AWS Bedrock private LLMs and AWS Lambda workloads, as well as our integration projects with Private ChatGPT LLMs.
Practical Applications and Advice
We offered insights on advising clients about the most secure and appropriate uses of AI, including scenarios where AI might not be the best option. We emphasized our accreditations as an AWS Consulting Partner, AWS Reseller, and an ISO27001 Information Security Management accredited company.
The Future of Translation and Content Creation
Looking ahead, we discussed the evolution from simple translation services to tech-enabled content creation hubs. We provided advice on setting out roadmaps and highlighted the importance of good project management, showcasing FlowDezk, a product of our sister company, which offers best-of-breed project management tools with agile and AI-based features.
Engaging Conversations and Networking
Our presentation sparked numerous interesting conversations during the Q&A session and in the days that followed. We also ran an information stand showcasing FlowDezk, which inspired further discussions and connections.
A Successful Conference
Overall, the SAP LX Forum 2024 was a fun, inspirational, sociable, enlightening, and exciting event. It was also quite tiring, but we left feeling energized and motivated. We are already collaborating with some of our colleagues in the partner group to take our ideas further.
