Project Management Q&A with Rajendran SubramaniamAt GlobalizeMe, we’re super proud of our team of experts who bring real hands-on experience to every project we take on. Project management is the backbone of everything we do, so we caught up with Rajendran Subramaniam – our IT Project Manager extraordinaire – to get his take on why it’s so important.

With 16 years in IT, 11 of those spent in project management, and a solid 5.5 years as a business analyst, Rajendran’s led all kinds of teams to deliver innovative web apps, PWAs, and mobile apps. He’s also a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) and an Agile enthusiast, using technology to boost project efficiency.

Here’s what he had to say about why structured project management is key, no matter how big or small the project is….

Q: Rajendran, why do you think project management is so critical, no matter the project size?

A: Whether it’s a simple website update or a complex enterprise platform, project management keeps things on track. It’s not just about following a set process, it’s about adding structure, clarity, and accountability. Without it, even small projects can spiral into chaos with scope creep and changing priorities. On the flip side, large projects can easily get out of hand without a clear framework. Project management keeps everything consistent, reduces stress, and makes sure teams stay aligned.

Q: Some businesses think smaller projects don’t need structured management. What’s your view on that?

A: That’s a common mistake. People often think, “It’s a quick job, we’ll just wing it.” But skipping the planning usually leads to missed deadlines and last-minute panics. A little structure, even for small projects, goes a long way. Setting clear objectives, assigning responsibilities, and planning realistic timelines from the start saves time and frustration down the line.

Q: And for larger, more complex projects, how does project management keep things under control?

A: Big projects come with lots of moving parts, stakeholders, and dependencies. Without solid planning, things fall through the cracks, budgets blow out, and timelines stretch indefinitely. Good project management breaks everything down into manageable phases. It keeps us on top of progress, anticipates risks, and helps us make smarter decisions. It also keeps accountability clear – if things go off track, we know exactly where to focus.

Q: You mentioned scope creep, how do you handle that?

A: Scope creep can be a huge challenge! It happens when new features or expectations are added without adjusting the timeline or budget. The key to managing it is clear communication and setting expectations early. At GlobalizeMe, we’re not afraid to practice ‘tough love’. We work closely with clients to make sure we’re meeting their vision, but we also push back when necessary to keep things realistic. A structured approach helps us manage scope creep without letting the project spiral.

Q: What’s one major benefit of consistently applying project management principles?

A: Consistency! When everyone uses the same tools, processes, and terminology, collaboration improves. People know what to expect, which reduces confusion and miscommunication. It also builds trust with clients and within the team, because there’s always a clear plan. Even when unexpected issues crop up (which is pretty much a given in tech), having a structured approach means we can adapt without it turning into chaos.

Q: Any final tips for businesses looking to improve their project management?

A: Don’t think of project management as just bureaucracy or red tape. Think of it as a tool to get better results with less stress. Even for smaller projects, investing in planning and structure always pays off. At GlobalizeMe, project management is second nature to us, and we’re always happy to help businesses get their projects on track. If you’re ready to talk about your next project, let’s have a chat!
